Down and Dirty

Enjoyable and unique take on the PNR genre, worth putting on your TBR list.

What is it about?

Aiden, Callum and Issac comprise an incomplete coven desperately and not so patiently waiting for their fourth coven mate. Unfortunately, it has been years and with everyday that passes, their hope is slowly dwindling and their spirits are tumbling, each becoming more certain that their fourth will never come. When Librarian-in-Training, Joanna Wick, arrives on campus, she immediately garners the attention – and the hope – of the coven. There is something about her that draws them in and spurs them all to dreaming. Yet no matter the attraction and appeal, it may all be for naught, as covens consist of witches, and Joanna is no witch…

Thoughts

This fast burn RH spelled my librarian loving heart in all the right ways. A woman who may not be a witch, the coven that wants her, mistakes and the smell of old books…. beautiful.

The overall plot and theme of the novel is unique, offering a different take on familiar patterns, though many things may still feel formulaic. I didn’t quite fall in love with Joanna, nor her men (aside from Callum), but I have hope that they will gain more solidity in Book 2 and find the definition they lacked here.

First Person, Multiple POV

Ending Type

HFN (Happy for now)

Pros:

  • A librarian. She’s not a mercenary or and Assassin, a princess or the lost fae queen – she’s a LIBRARIAN! In training no less.
  • Callum: He’s awkward yet forceful when he needs to be. Freaking adorable.
  • Plot is very unique
  • Descriptive language.

Cons:

  • Drags in a few places
  • Character development is not quite up to par.

Verdict

4 out of 5 Stars

If you want to enjoy a unique take on the Paranormal RH genre – and a LIBRARIAN! – then you should put this on your TBR list. It’s not perfect, but it is entertaining.
