Down and Dirty

A great introduction to a new Academy Series – grab it today!

What is it about?

(Blurb from GoodReads)

For Remi St. James, It started with the blackouts. Then the vivid nightmares. That’s nothing compared to waking up naked, alone in a forest with no recollection of how she got there.

Scary as hell, but what she discovers is far worse.

Remi was changing into something more–something supernatural.

After coming to terms with what she is, Remi starts school at the Gladwell Academy of Shifters, an exclusive and secretive college designed to awaken those with extraordinary abilities.

Remi meets Laith Brighton, an impossibly hot, mountain lion shifter who’s also an irresistible jerk. Then there’s the cliques of werewolves and bears. Plenty of mean girls with mind powers. Everything a regular college has–just a bit weirder. But what she discovers is far darker than anyone could imagine.

Can she maintain her sanity in a place that is incredibly insane?

Fans of the Fallen Academy and Supernatural Academy series will love this snarky paranormal fantasy filled with shifters and romance.

Thoughts on Werewolves 101

Academy PNR’s gain a full dose of humor and intrigue when it comes to The Academy of Shifters, introducing us to a new, yet hidden world of magic, shifters and political drama.

Remi is a werewolf, though her powers are just now coming on line. When they are discovered, she is fortunate enough to be recruited and collected to attend the elite Gladwell Academy, where she will learn control her powers and benefit the shifter world.

But things are never quite so easy, nor so straightforward. Especially not for Remi.

Fast paced and full of twists, this PNR grabs on the first page and doesn’t let go. Half way through I thought I knew what was going on. Three quarters of the way through, I realized I knew less than Jon Snow and by the end, I committed to nabbing Book 2 on pre-order.

Pros:

  • Such a great concept with fine world Building.
  • The Characters come alive, both the main and the secondary.
  • You can almost feel Remi’s pain.
  • The groundwork is set nicely for Book 2.
  • There are mean girls everywhere, but sometimes, even the mean ones have honor.

Cons:

  • Blurb made the blackouts feel more important, or at least more featured, than they were.
  • Remi can be a little too dense, even if she is rather quick in other areas.

Verdict

4 out of 5 Stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and eagerly look forward to seeing what happens with the Tooth & Claw Society. How many teachers are involved? Who will Remi get to help? Can a wolf and a lion really work? So many questions….
