Down & Dirty

There is a decided ‘Good Will Hunting’ vibe to this new Academy PNR, offering a delicious twist to this new Academy PNR. Free on Kindle Unlimited.

What is it about?

(Blurb from GoodReads)

Life at the academy just got… messy.

I’ve always dreamed of getting into a top college, but after a stint in juvie, my school prospects went sideways fast. Now I work at a magic academy…as a janitor. Ironic, right?

Okay, so maybe I get a kick out of secretly solving the arcane equations the professors leave on the board for the rich, entitled student wizards. I’m broke, not stupid.

Except then I get caught by the hottest mage on campus…who ropes me into helping him and his three equally gorgeous friends win a decidedly screwed-up magic competition.

Easy enough, I think—until I start setting things on fire and getting chased by smoke-faced monsters and fighting side by side with four of the sexiest, most powerful wizards ever…and find myself—just maybe—falling in love…

With all of them.

Whoops.

Note:

This is a medium burn, New Adult Why Choose paranormal academy romance, and book 1 of 4 in the Twyst Academy series.

Thoughts on Touch of The Mage

A Different kind of academy

This slow burn took an interesting turn and tweaked the academy sub- genre just enough to be incredibly interesting. The writing is very smooth with creative twists and turns, plopping out humor as quickly as it spits the action.

Overall, I was quite impressed with this university level RH, though it did lose a star due to some confusion in regards to the actual Mage Trials. The explanations seem to change as quickly as the scenery, and while that is part and parcel of the narrative, it did offer quite a bit of bafflement.

Pros:

  • Good Will Hunting Vibe!
  • Maddigan…. I LOVE her name!! And the reason for it! Epic.
  • The world building is slow, but present.
  • Rafe….. he’s an ass, but I like him.

Cons:

  • I really don’t know what is going on….

My Final Verdict on Touch of The Mage

This is a new and fascinating University Level Academy RH, with all the ups and downs of a fast moving PNR. There is heat, danger and enough mystery to keep things moving, without the dreaded immaturity many Academy PNR’s suffer from. Free on Kindle Unlimited.
