What is it about?
(Blurb from GoodReads)
Everybody has bad days, stories of horror and woe. Unless they have the wind calling their name and ghosts telling them they have bad debts, I don’t have time to listen. I’m too busy with the hot guy who yelled at me because of some stupid feather, and the strange people jumping through puddles and kidnapping me to Xest.
If you don’t know where Xest is, join the club. They say it’s somewhere north of North, and east of East. It sure doesn’t look like any place I’ve ever seen.
So yeah, top that day and maybe I’ll hear you out. Right now though, I’ve got to go help the hot guy keep the darkness at bay over by the Unsettled Lands, while trying to not blow things up. It’s the only way I’ll ever get back to Salem.
My Thoughts on The Whimsy Witch Who Wasn’t
There are bad days, then there are incredibly horrible, no good, smack you down bad days. Guess which one Tippi was having?
This book is both hysterical and heart breaking, showcasing the sheer differences a soul can have when said soul knows nothing of what, or who, it is. Tippi is lost and trying to be found among a magical population she didn’t even know existed, while forging friendships based on tenuous rules and navigating the suddenly complicated ‘business’ that the world of magic seems to be. Good times.
I love this story, from the beginning melodic tones of the opening pages to the final, heart sore (yet still somewhat funny) moments of Tippi’s ‘return’. There is so much going on, from obscure rules and foundations to the prerequisite dark and mysterious Hawk, who keeps secrets from his secrets. Add in some charming side characters, a brewing subplot and some sexual tension – and you’ve got another hit for the creative genius that is Donna Augustine.
