What is it about?

(Blurb from GoodReads)

A dead earth, a handful of survivors, and a game that could wipe out humanity.

I was one of the few humans to be saved by the shining ones. Powerful beings who came from the stars just in time to stop the annihilation of mankind.

But they’ve been here before.

Earth was once their home and humanity has another name for them. Fae.

Now we live in iron cities paying for haven as workers and conscripted warriors.

We owe them after all.

Until they ask too much.

The Regency Tournament is about to begin. A test of prowess for the shining ones to determine which House will rule their people for the next century.

And we humans? We’re the prey.

But I didn’t survive earths almost destruction to be hunted like a beast.

If I’m going to go down, then I’ll be taking these pointy eared wankers with me.

And I have an advantage. A shadow companion—protective but tough. My mentor has trained me in the art of survival. With his smooth dulcet tones in my head, and his shadowy form at my back, I’ll no longer be prey.

And when I hunt the shining ones, they won’t even see me coming.

Thoughts on Taste My Wrath

Debbie Cassidy has a talent for bringing original stories with engaging plots to the table, and this new adventure is no different.

19 year old Danika has grown up in a world ‘saved’ by the Shining Ones, condemned to peddle her gratitude for another day living by accepting a government assigned library job and patrolling the grounds as a part-time guard against the Bleak. It’s hardly glamours, and it doesn’t quite pay the bills or put food on the table, but she has other ways of doing that… ways that give her an edge when the rulers on High flex their muscles and call The Regency Games.

Fast paced, deadly and wholly mysterious, this book weaves myth with a Dystopian feel, crafting a plot that flows at a break neck speed, yet still allows the characters room to be discovered by the reader. In other words, it’s a great Urban Fantasy sure to please.

**I received an ARC of this book and I am thrilled to share my honest opinion**

Pros:

  • The hints of foreshadowing… those are going to play out well.
  • Killion, ok – no spoilers here, but WHAT??!
  • Dani’s dedication and grit. Great character Building.
  • I want that sword.
  • Little bit of a hunger games feel, without the oppressive YA ambiance.

Cons:

  • Some of the world building was opaque, but that should become clearer as the books stack.

Perspective:

1st Person, Single POV

Ending Type:

Episodic. Ends on a ‘Now what?’ moment.

Rating:

PG-15 atm, may become R later on?

Romantic Dynamic:

M/F

Character Age Range:

19+

My Final Verdict on Taste My Wrath

Dystopian fantasy with a touch of fate and fear, it’s a Cassidy special and it’s on full display with this new series. We don’t quite know what is going on, and that is as it should be. Free on Kindle Unlimited.
