Down & Dirty

The Nightwatch Academy series comes to an end with this explosive culmination, dragging the realms, and factions, together, in a battle not everyone can survive. Fast, heated and action packed – it’s free on Kindle Unlimited.

What is it about?

(Blurb from GoodReads)

The tide has turned, and chaos hovers on the horizon.

There can be no looking back. There can be no second guessing, because the lives that matter most to me are on the line.

No one gets left behind.
It’s time to walk into the storm.

Note from the Author

The Vampire Academy meets Game of Thrones in this kick-ass, supernatural academy, Urban Fantasy with a slow burn Why Choose Romance.

Thoughts on Shadow Master

I have read quite a few collections penned by Debbie Cassidy, and through all those worlds and narratives I have come to expect one thing…. not every thread will be tied. While we may get the coveted HEA, there ARE questions left unanswered and potentials left unexplored. It’s a bit painful, but also a touch refreshing. Life doesn’t give us all the answers, why should our entertainment? Even if that entertainment is painted with a paranormal brush?

Picking up right where Book 3 leaves off, Indigo (I really, really love her name) is tunneling through the rubble of what was once the Nightwatch. Her mate is gone, Hyde is probably dead and there is no hint of Kash on the horizon. It’s dark, dreary, and about to get worse, because the Shadow Master is dying. That, right there, (not to mention the title of the book) should be enough to clue the reader into what happens next… and what paves the way for an epic tale that, quite literally, changes everything.

The events that slam through this story are fast, brutal and realm building. We get hints of the other Nightwatch series mentioned here and there, along with some answers to the burning questions that have built over the previous books. It’s violent, bloody, and, honestly… it will probably lead into a few more books in this universe, despite the shaky HEA we get at the end. Or, at least, I HOPE it leads to more books. I’ve got questions man, questions!

*I received an ARC of this book and am pleased to share my honest opinion*

Pros:

  • Indigo is seriously Badass!
  • The world is changed.
  • Other series is pulled in, with certain aspects mentioned.
  • Brady…. I am still in love with him.
  • For once, I don’t want to hit Hyde. NOW I want to smack Orion… mostly.
  • Foreshadowing from previous books plays out here.
  • There is potential for more works in this Universe, quite a few, really.

Cons:

  • Some parts felt disjointed.
  • While I appreciate that lack of TOTAL closure, I still wanted a few more answers and happy endings.
  • Harmon…. just Harmon.
  • Orion… I really feel like there is more to that story. Guess it’s another one of those “not quite answered” moments.

My Final Verdict on Shadow Master

4 out of 5 Stars

The end justifies the means, and every bit of heartache we’ve gone through with Indigo during her journey… almost. With fire and brimstone, this book ends a series with both questions and answers, giving a HEA to character we love, while still offering the chance for continuing tales. A great read that is Free on Kindle Unlimited.
