What is it about?

(Blurb from GoodReads)

The Ringmaster is coming… to steal me away.

For years, my odd ability to manipulate others kept me one step ahead of the Underbelly Circus – a place nobody like me lives through.

Everything goes to hell when a gorgeous stranger dies right in front of me, resurrects himself as a dragon, and begs me to follow him straight into the Underbelly beast.

He claims I’m the lost Qilin Queen – a magical freaking unicorn.

I can smell the truth in his words, and he’s desperate. How can I help him, if he works for my greatest enemy?

The answer comes barreling into my world when his brothers-in-arms find me, too – lion shifter, mage, fae, merman, and vampire.

They’re all from a magical world beyond mine, and they need me to help them find the way home.

Only a pure Qilin can find the Path, and these six men think I’m the last one alive.

I’m Carlyle Licorne, and I’m no innocent unicorn.

Thoughts

Unexpected

I, admittedly, tend to snag books on KU based on the cover – which I realize is horrible and short sighted. That said, this book proved to be something completely different than the cover led me to believe. Something that turned out to be an amazing thing. Yes, it’s about a dragon, but it’s not really about the dragon – it’s about so much more. Lost worlds, hidden paths, unicorns, shifters, vampires, magic and a circus gone mad. Talk about complex!

Perspective

First Person, Multiple POV

Ending Type

Cliffhanger

Steam Level

Hot, getting hotter towards end. Slow/Medium Burn.

Pros:

  • Very Unique world building.
  • Characters are captivating.
  • Is it wrong that I find the ringmaster compelling?
  • Qilin’s…. wow. Just wow.

Cons:

  • Some of the action scenes are so busy they get confusing.

Verdict

4 out of 5 Stars

Great book, I recommend it to all fans of Paranormal Romance, RH or Urban Fantasy.
