Oath Sworn

(A Jacky Leon Novel – Book 1)

by Kristen Banet
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

Urban Fantasy
Available on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited

Down and Dirty

Banet has done it again, but this time, instead of regaling us with epic Reverse Harem fantasy, she is delving into the Urban Fantasy realm, creating a world with new rules and amazing characters. I recommend this book highly – free on Kindle Unlimited.

What is it about?

(Blurb from GoodReads)

Jacky Leon isn’t someone who goes looking for trouble. She owns a bar, pays her taxes, and serves her drinks cold outside a small town in Texas. The fact that she’s a werecat is just something she’s had to live with. Alone in her territory, she’s lived a secretive life for six years: under the radar, avoiding her past and the baggage that comes with it.

Trouble finds Jacky, though, in the form of an eleven year old girl and a werewolf turf war just outside her borders. Forced to honor an ancient treaty and the Laws of the supernatural world, Jacky swears an oath to protect Carey Everson, the human daughter of a local werewolf Alpha from Dallas.

When his enemies come after Jacky and her charge, she’s going to have to embrace the more dangerous side of who and what she is. She’s going to have to challenge the very Laws that govern her kind.

And nothing is going to stop her from honoring her word.

Thoughts on Oath Sworn

I adore almost every book this author has written, and this new series is no different… in fact, I almost cried when I saw that just 1 book in Jacky’s story is out!!

Jacky is strong, loyal, noble and just human enough to be relatable. While strictly an Urban Fantasy offering, there is a hint of romance that creeps in around the half-way point, taunting a possible FUTURE connection as this series continues. Perfect.

Favorite Line

Only Hell had the right to be this fucking hot, and East Texas wasn’t Hell, no matter how hard it tried to be sometimes. (1%)

Pros:

  • Very well written.
  • Jacky… she’s amazing.
  • Heath…. I like that werewolf.
  • World building is fascinating!
  • HFN in this book with obvious metaplot peeking through the pages. Need answers!!

Cons:

  • Not fair to call this a con, as these things take time, but my greedy little literary heart is sad book 2 isn’t out. Going to hunt for hints now.

Perspective

First Person, Single POV

Ending Type

Rating
