What is it about?

(Blurb from GoodReads)

For twenty-four years I have been fighting for my life,
And I’m losing.
Out of time and options,
I make a devil’s bargain with the Phoenix group that ensures my family will be provided for once I’m gone.
So, I pack up what’s left of my life and sign it over to them.
I have a month left to live, 43200 fleeting minutes.
Yet, it’s long enough for everything to change.
Long enough to dream big, to love hard, and inexplicably begin to heal.
But the thing about a devil’s bargain is that there is inevitably a price to pay.
Always one step ahead, The Phoenix group observe, test, and wait for someone special to come along.
Someone like me.
Now, to avoid spending the rest of my life in a cage,
The girl who was once ready to die will burn the world to ashes for a chance to live.

Note:

Please note that this is a medium burn Reverse harem Romance, suitable for older audiences.

Thoughts on From The Ashes

There is a gritty appeal to this dark RH romance, one that weaves through the narrative with both deception and hope. I thoroughly enjoyed Cam’s character development, along with the guys that surround her – you can see the strength that bleeds through her veins and the determination she has to help leave a better life for her brother, even if it costs her own.

The twists and turns, not to mention the romantic development, crafts a great tale, offering a chilling look at a Government gone mad, and the ones caught in its net.

Prepare for heartache and heart break.

Pros:

  • Well written.
  • Breast Cancer treatments are described with sensitivity, even as the brutal emotions that come with them are honest.
  • The interactions of the guys is great!
  • Woman hiding as a boy trope…. I just love that dynamic, though it doesn’t last TOO long in this book.
  • The covers of Book 1 and Book 2 combine to show one face… awesome!

Cons:

  • Not totally down with the overbearing ‘Alpha-ness’ of Fox.
  • The Ending.

Perspective:

First Person, Limited Multiple POV

Ending Type

Cliffhanger

My Final Verdict on From The Ashes

Great Sci-Fi/PNR that plays fast and loose with the concepts of morality and how far people will go to become ‘more’. There is a touch of predictability in the plot, though that final strike at the end came out of nowhere. Well written and well done, this Duet is complete on Kindle Unlimited.
