Down & Dirty

If you are looking for a mild twist on the Academy RH Genre, this book might fit the bill. Certain ‘knowns’ in the Paranormal world are tweaked and shifted, allowing a different narrative to emerge. Free on Kindle Unlimited.

What is it about?

(Blurb from GoodReads)

Spirit shifters are killed at birth, except when they aren’t.

Raised by human traffickers, Hailey learned from an early age that the one person she could trust was herself.

But a shifter needs a pack, and Hailey doesn’t know who’s an enemy and who’s a lover. Or who to trust with a secret that could get her killed.

Note from the Author

Found is a the first book in this Why Choose, Dark Paranormal Romance series. Expect a tough as nails innocent, bullies, shifters, and love in this sexy new adult reverse harem romance.

All characters are 18+. This series is intended for readers 18+ and may contain situations which are triggering.

Thoughts on Found

I’m curious

Alright, while this is an academy reverse Harem, and certainly fit the parameters of it, it was still more entertaining as some I’ve read recently. A bit fast in places, and the jumps in plot and time got to me, not to mention the brewing emotions amongst the guys that feel lacking in a foundation…. but it was still a decent read. And since it’s on KU, I’ll be following it.

The blurb and subtitle mention Bully and Dark… neither of which I quite understand. It might be Dark(ish) and there IS bullying…. but not from the main group, unless you count Brenton who hasn’t even thrown his hat into the rink at this point. If your view is different, let’s chat – I love talking about book theories!

Pros:

  • I enjoyed the combination of elements with shifters.
  • The Academy seems interesting.
  • In intrigued as to how the guys will navigate their feelings.
  • Brenton…. He’s my favorite, and the only one who didn’t get a POV (sadly)

Cons:

  • Info dumps.
  • Time skips.
  • Characters are immature, due to age or flaws is unknown.
  • Details are given without explanation or understanding.
  • Too Fast at times.

Perspective

First Person, Multiple POV

Ending Type

Cliffhanger

Rating

R (Sexual content towards the end)

Romantic Dynamic

Character Age Range

My Final Verdict on Found

3.5 out of 5 Stars

While not wholly captivating or original, this Academy RH is just different enough to gain some traction on a Kindle Unlimited Queue. The characters are interesting and the dynamics forming hint at violence, and heat, to come.
