Down and Dirty
Good start to a new series – worth reading.
What is it about?
All McKenzie, a powerless witch born into a powerful family, wants to do is save her sister from the curse coursing through her body – a curse that has rendered the younger sister magic-less. Should be easy, right?
Unfortunately, a midnight heist to steal a unique and illegal potion that would restore her sister’s lost magic, goes awry when the theft is co-opted by three incredibly sexy, and devious Fox Shifters. Not only do they steal the potion from her, but they almost get Kenzie caught by the Alpha’s security team!
Now Kenzie just has to figure out how to get the valuable potion back from them before her sister degrades, avoid the Alpha and somehow protect her heart. All in a day’s work, right?
Thoughts
What does the a Fox say? (You know I HAD to do it!)
This book cracked me up and pulled me in fairly quickly. It opens with the heist, but the true scope and plot of the book begins soon after – slapping into the narrative with aplomb. The potion is vitally important, but so is the entire world in which we glimpse the trio and their witch mate. Set in the same Universe as other Shifter novels by Emma Dean, like ‘Spotted her First’ and ‘Alpha Wolf’ – you’ll hear familiar lore and even recognize some friendly faces or names. you do not, however, have to read any of the other books to enjoy and fall into this book. It may share the same universe, but it is a stand alone series that does not hinge on the world building done previously.
There are laugh out loud moments of hilarity, along with plenty of self introspection to be had. The three sexy foxes…. and thieves…. claiming to be Kenzie’s mates throw her life into a whirlwind of confusion, plotting and desire. It seems the game is afoot… and not only foxes can play.

Verdict

I would recommend this book to any fans of Emma Dean and shifters of any variety. It is funny, unique and worth putting on your TBR list today. At this time, there are two books in this series with the third to be published soon.
