First Moon

(Lovin’ the Coven – Book 1)

by Jacquelyn Faye
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Slow Burn, Paranormal RH
Available on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited

I reviewed this last year, but with the last and final book having dropped on July 1st (How did I miss that?!) – a reread was in order – and that means an update!!

Down and Dirty

Witches in a small town with big attitudes and even bigger dreams… what is not to love?

What is it about?

(Blurb from GoodReads)

Welcome to Cedar Falls…

I thought the sign seemed a little too welcoming, but when you get the call to move from the goddess herself, you don’t get to be picky. I just wasn’t expecting my new home to be so rustic and…down on its luck. But, when you’re a witch, life can get pretty interesting…and dangerous. Especially when someone is killing the local coven. At least the chief of police is pretty hot, when he’s not accusing me of being the murderer.

Cedar Falls seems to have no shortage of hot men. With so many stunning men, why choose just one? Sorry, Chief. Let’s just hope I don’t get too distracted before I find the murderer, open my new bookstore, and help Cedar Falls become what it was meant to be…

First Moon is an adult novel intended for mature audiences only. It contains graphic language and sexual situations. 18+ readers only! This is a medium burn reverse harem where the girl gets all the guys. Why Choose?

Please note, this is a Reverse Harem Series which will feature sexual themes or scenes more suited to an adult audience.

My Thoughts on First Moon

This book was downright hysterical – in all the right places. Sexy, witchy and the perfect introduction to a new world where witches live long, the Lady is real and a town is in trouble of the magical kind.

The singular plot itself was a bit mundane and predictable, but the meta plot is brewing nicely in this cauldron of creativity. That over arcing theme will get me to grab book 2 and find out where this renamed coven is headed – and what The Lady has in store for them all.

I do not know the final make up of the harem, as this charming first person, single POV paranormal RH strikes me as the kind that will add love interests as the series progresses.

Pros:

  • Funny!
  • Character development.
  • World building is on point.
  • Plot was intriguing, but far from complicated. This book seemed more of an introductory in purpose.

Cons:

  • Some editing issues: the reason this is a 4 instead of a 5 star.
  • Some back and forth dialogue needed a bit more definition as to who was speaking. NOT every line (please, never that) but after a few switches, identify.

Perspective

First Person, Single POV

Ending Type

Episodic with Hook.

Steam Level

X-Rated though true intercourse is not present for this installment…. you get the taste and tease of plenty of other things though. 😉

Romantic Dynamic

No clue on the final, but this first one offers up MMF

Character Age Range

Main character is 99, but other characters range from 35 to 700…..

My Final Verdict on First Moon

Great introduction to a series – I would recommend this to any fans of paranormal, Urban Fantasy or hysterical Reverse Harems! With all 7 books now out, and free on Kindle Unlimited, there hasn’t been a better time to dive in Cedar Falls!
