What is it about?
With the Archnephilim defeated, Essie steps back away from the JOC and rejoins her mundane life, determined to go back to her beat cop existence. After all, the closer she gets to the Team, the more likely they will discover her secret. Yet fate and circumstance laugh at her plans, soon landing Essie in the path of the JOC once again – and this time, it’s the Mayor who wants her on the team.
Nothing about this situation fills Essie with comfort – not even Kol’s flashing smile, Marcus’s growling protection, Jacob’s vampire commands or Gideon’s angelic and soul destroying presence. They are too close, too tempting and far too dangerous….
Thoughts
I am really enjoying the build up and interplay of these books and the characters I am growing to love. Essie is growing yet still hiding, vainly trying to be part of a world that could easily destroy her – if her heart doesn’t implode first.
Perspective:
First person, single POV
Ending Type:
Episodic HFN with series Hook
Pros:
- Well written.
- Characters feel alive and relatable.
- Unique take on familiar themes, especially empathy.

- Some minor editing issues, more spell check error than anything.
