Down and Dirty
Decently entertaining.
What is it about?
Azra has spent the last two years running and hiding from her life – and her broken heart. When she stumbled upon her loving Fiance with another, everything that made Azra, Azra, shattered and shivered away, leaving her reeling and running. Landing in a small, no nothing town, she has no idea that two years later she would fall into the hands of a Changling Hunter… or that it would change her life forever.
Kidnapped and forced into the Light Kingdom of the Fae, Azra is face to face with horrors, slavery and angels. Everything she once knew about herself is splintered and shoved aside for an identity she can’t believe. They tell her she is Fae. They tell her that she is important. They tell her that she is the Changer…
Thoughts
Interesting book with a new, though not wholly fresh, look at the Fae, changlings and the idea of human individuality.
Azra, original name Azreal, is a character you both love and kinda dislike (not hate). She’s rolling with the punches, but maybe a bit too easily? Everyone reacts differently and fate is a fickle thing, but some of her responses left me tepid… and confused. But I still kinda loved her. Odd, perhaps. 🤷♀️
Perspective:
First Person, Multiple POV
Ending Type:
Cliffhanger
Pros:
- There’s s political message, but it’s buried and only peaks through, instead of shouting it’s purpose.
- Logan. Best character, hands down.
- Red… ok, maybe HE’S the best character?
- Well edited.
- Gorgeous Cover – and so suited to the work!
Cons:
- Info dumps.
- Cass…. not sure about this Fae. He’s important, but…. ugh?
- Stumbling mythos. Hasn’t quite found its footing yet with world building.
Favorite Lines:
It’s better than Prozac and cheaper than a therapist. (2%)
“I am certainly not a dragon. Dragons are not a superior species. They think they are, but they smell and go around crushing and exploding things. Not at all superior,” (92%)
Verdict

I liked it, but I am not sure if I will follow the series into the Dark Realm. You might enjoy it.
