Down and Dirty

Fully silly but wholly fun, this contemporary romance is just interesting enough to spend an hour or two with.

What is it about?

(Blurb from GoodReads)

She was broken and beautiful – and left for dead.
I found her in my father’s burning-down house.
Her memory was gone. My parents were missing.
Then it hit me.
This must be my new stepsister.

They say a person can’t control their feelings.
Well, I’m way beyond feelings with her.
I’m balls deep in straight obsession.

A desire to possess and protect her all at the same time.
I was doing an OK job at controlling my thoughts.
Until she walked in on me doing something… private.
Her name fresh on my lips.

I should have felt guilty.
But there’s no stopping what we both wanted.
Both needed.

This off-limits romantic suspense offers one hell of a happily ever after and a surprise ending guaranteed to leave you breathless.

Thoughts on Broken

So, there is a mob boss connection, amnesia and kidnappings in this book. Yet, for the life of me, the first word that pops into my mind when I think of Broken is ‘fun’. Because it IS fun, in that silly, OMG, you like your step-brother, kind of way. And seriously, what’s not to like? The guy is hot. But it’s also mildly taboo…. because people are stupid and perceptions are always more important than facts or feeling, eh?

But when two older adults get married and have adult children who have never met…. come on man! Stuff happens. Just the right amount of naughty.

All that aside, I will not say this book was well-written, because it’s not. It’s OK, and just OK. The plot was subpar and easy to figure out. The characters are flat and lack an emotional connection to each other or to the reader…. but it’s still fun. Fluffy, if you will – the perfect escape material for a few hours.

Pros:

  • Mild taboo.
  • Steamy.

Cons:

  • Flat our silly plot wise.
  • Too quick.
  • No emotional build up. Then again, you don’t read this kind of book for that.
