What is it About?
(Blurb from GoodReads yet again… one day I will get out of this cast!)
Is love worth the danger?
When Hunter Cassidy plans to infiltrate the Assassin’s Legion, posing as an assassin-in-training, she is prepared to encounter danger every step of the way. What she doesn’t expect is the ruggedly handsome and relentlessly fierce trainee, Slade Baines.
It’s hard enough that Hunter is the first female to be accepted to train with the Master Assassin himself. Even when she beats the other candidates, the Master ranks her lowest of all. In the male-dominated Legion, the other trainees see her as a weak link to be driven out of their ranks.
When they try to force Hunter out, Slade gets in their way, becoming an unexpected ally. Despite her best intentions, Hunter finds herself lowering her guard around him, which only makes carrying out her secret mission more difficult and puts her in danger of falling for him.
But there’s more at stake than Hunter’s heart. The Master Assassin possesses the key to locate a weapon that Hunter must ensure remains hidden at all costs. In her quest to stop this deadly power from falling into the wrong hands, she must make a choice between following her heart… or fulfilling her destiny.
Thoughts
Well plotted!
I love a well thought out Urban Fantasy – and this one meets all the right marks! The beginning is a touch confusing, as you are dropped right into the middle of the action and have to run to keep up with Hunter, or even understand her plan..or why it matters so much!
It’s some time before things become clear, but by the time they do, you’re fully invested and rooting for this fledgling Assassin to not only succeed, but beat the players at their own game!
Perspective
First Person, Single POV
Ending Type
Cliffhanger
Steam Level
2.5 Alarm towards ending
Pros:
- Good use of familiar myths, twisted just enough to make them unique here.
- Fear can cripple… and this is shown eloquently several times.
- No dreaded info dump, this novel deftly avoids the ‘first book in series’ curse.
- I like how minor mentions become major plot points as the story builds.
- So many questions!!
Cons:
- Cliffhanger ending ALMOST made me throw my phone… (I read on the app).
- Tandy…. girl…. seriously? THAT needs some heavy explanation.
Favorite Line
It won’t matter that I held on longer than most of the males. I’m female. A different standard applies to me. (1%)
Verdict

A well done Urban Fantasy that will lead nicely into Book 2. I recommend it.
