What is it about?
Ria, like Leah but with an R, is a normal girl… mostly. OK, she is far from normal, but she pretends to be a normal 20 year old waitress with nothing to worry about. Except that she does worry, a lot. About bills. About the future. About hiding her strange powers….
Cursed or blessed with a strange ability that enables her to not only feel the emotions of others, but manipulate them or even feed emotion into another, Ria keeps her head down and her hands clean, hiding in the shadows of normalcy. That all changes when she is attacked one night and loses control of her power, gaining the attention of a wandering hero and his band of misfit angels and demons… all the while placing a very large, and very dangerous target on her back. They claim they can tell her what she is. They claim they can protect her. But in this strange new world, Ria doesn’t know if angels are right or which demon to trust…
Thoughts
I liked this book, but I didn’t LOVE it. That said, there is definite potential for the story to pick up in book 2. Ria is an interesting MC with a quick wit that made me smile and sometimes laugh. Her interactions with the mixed gang of biblical beings are both humorous and lively, though the info dumps left a little to be desired.
I’ll keep an eye out for Book 2 and let you know how things go. Judging by the groundwork laid here, I am hoping that Book 1 suffered from the world creation curse, losing itself to the details while allowing Book 2 and above to flourish. *Crosses fingers*
Perspective:
Third Person, Single POV
Ending Type:
Cliffhanger
Pros:
- Entertaining.
- I liked Tallen.
- FMC is a smart ass with quick witted quips.
- Some parts were quite funny.
Cons:
- Felt fast?
- More action was implied than actually happened.
- Formulaic.
- Lack of character development.
- Cliffhanger (not really a con… but 🤷♀️)
Verdict

If you’ve got Kindle Unlimited, this would be worth a look.
